Going back to school to finish a degree or start a new area of study can be intimidating because you’re not sure what you remember or exactly what you’ll be asked to do. Maybe you have a piece of writing that you would like to revise and you need a pair of fresh eyes. In these cases, it’s not always clear that a private tutor can help. For this reason, I offer an hour of free tutoring for adults with an individual project or goal. (This does not apply to adults needing help with work in a traditional course of study offered by an institution.) I can custom design a program of study to help you fill in a gap in your education or advise you on a writing project you may have in mind. I’ve found from past experience that this kind of tutoring can be done very successfully through email with phone consultations. For math topics, please read over my experience and areas of expertise to see if I’m the right person for your needs. For writing, please read the following statement:
I can help you with your writing if it is persuasive in nature. “Persuasive writing” is pitched to a certain audience and intends to make them believe or do something. Business plans, cover letters, legal briefs, this paragraph, and grant proposals are all genres of persuasive writing. Because the elements of persuasive writing are very similar across genres, someone who is adept at one kind will be able to write other kinds fairly easily. Someone who writes excellent grant proposals, for example, will likely also write the kind of cover letter that lands an interview. Since I have eight years of experience teaching persuasive writing, I can help you improve your work, even if I am unfamiliar with the specifics of the particular genre. If you need help with a business plan, I may not be able to check the accuracy of the numbers in your tables, but I can help you identify the most compelling aspects of your argument and help you position them where they will be most effective.
